Where the team moved
Business Insider reported that Google had completed a talent deal with San Francisco-based Mechanize. Public profiles show that cofounder and former CEO Tamay Besiroglu became a research scientist at DeepMind, followed by more than ten startup employees who joined Google. [1 · Business Insider]
Most of the specialists who moved are working on model mid-training—a stage after pretraining in which a system is adapted to more complex skills. Mechanize’s technology focused on improving models’ ability to write code. [1 · Business Insider]
The terms and Mechanize’s status
The publication previously reported that Google was discussing acquiring Mechanize’s technology and team for more than $1.5 billion. The final price and legal structure have not been disclosed; Google and Besiroglu declined to comment, so that figure cannot be treated as the confirmed value of the completed deal. Mechanize has not formally disappeared: Guive Assadi, previously its chief of staff, now describes himself as the company’s CEO. Earlier in 2026, the startup raised $9.1 million at a $500 million valuation. [1 · Business Insider]
